Professional Bike Fitting at Mosquito >

At Mosquito we believe an essential part of purchasing any new bike is correct sizing and fit and as a qualified Serotta Bike Fit Technician I get real pleasure and satisfaction from seeing customers go through the fitting  - knee pains gone, riding faster and longer with greater comfort. This is why we recommend this service with all full custom built  Moots, Litespeed, Parlee, Pegoretti, Merlin and Independent Fabrication purchases.

The SizeCycle fitting takes, on average, 2 hours to complete comprising of an interview, a comprehensive set of measurements to determine flexibility and foot characteristics, initial warm-up and main session on the SizeCycle jig.

Personal Interview

Information is taken regarding general body type, job, cycling experience and     aspirations, pedalling style and any injuries or problems you might be having (knee pains, back problems etc). Most problems to do with discomfort can be addressed during the fit to eliminate or mininise the likelihood of further injury.

Flexibility & Feet

After a general flexibility test, measurements are taken for hamstring flexibility and hip flexion, all of which have a great influence on your final position on the bike. The feet are examined and measured weighted and unweighted  to determine correct shoe size, checked for pronation/supination and if some form of stabilising footbed is appropriate. These measurements are used as parameters during the fitting process and create part of an envelope that will be worked within to give you the most efficient and comfortable position possible.

On the SizeCycle

It is only at this stage that you will be put on the jig after an initial warm up on your existing bike (if you have one).

Here we will work through your body starting at the feet up the legs to the pelvis, lower, mid and upper back to the head and down through the arms to the hands.

The very first thing will be to ensure correct cleat set up, incorrect cleat set up can cause a range of problems with knees, hips and lower back. Working through the legs, they are set up for optimum biomechanical efficiency – correct extension and KOPS (knee over pedal spindle) and a laser line used to checked knee alignment. At the pelvis we look at it’s orientation and correct alignment through he back to determine your neutral spine position using a number of exercises. The arms and hands are checked for position and comfort and using a Holistic approach the jig is adjusted to refine your position while taking photographs each step of the way.

What we end up with is a unique template for you and with the information from your final position on the jig and a clever piece of software, we can create a custom frame design or determine the best off the peg frame and ensure your new bike is set up with the correct length stem, stem rise, headset spacing, saddle height, saddle fore and aft position and saddle to bar drop. You can even use it to set up any existing bike you may have.

You will also receive a package containing printed copies and a CD with all the Photographs, Interview, Flexibility and Jig information.
